Gordon Ramsay is a well-known Michelin star chef, TV personality, and my inspiration when I cook at home. So when I was tasked with designing a cookbook in my typography II class, his recipes were an obvious choice. I tackled this design as if Ramsay himself was my client. Ramsay's cooking and personality exude sophistication and class and I wanted to capture that sophistication within the design. My "ah-ha" moment for this design happened when I was walking my dog in early fall. The deep red leaves of Maryland's maple trees are what started my journey to this design. I took a photograph of those leaves, sampled the color, and everything after that, from the type paring to the layout, fell together. I also hand-created vector illustrations for each recipe made from simple crosshatching and line work to create a uniform design aesthetic.
